NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING

Neighborhood Planning

What is Neighborhood Planning?

Neighborhood planners act as liaisons between city government and the community for most planning processes. Neighborhood planners participate in and often coordinate community plans. This group of planners act as go-to people for explanations of:

  • zoning
  • development
  • transportation
  • other planning-related matters.

Whether you're an individual or a representative of a community organization, neighborhood planners are here to help.

While Neighborhood Planners often work on projects of Citywide importance (See Comprehensive Plan), they also specialize in various parts of the City. We've got a map below that shows you which parts of the City each planner is responsible for and how to contact them.

Comprehensive Planning

As we work to re-populate this page, we will continue to make the two previously approved Comprehensive Plan components available publicly.  They are currently available in PDF, and are presented as adopted by the Planning Commission on the dates shown.

Environmental Planning and Review

Environmental Planning and Review addresses both regulatory review and proactive advancement of projects. The former addresses the issues of

  • stormwater management
  • floodplain management
  • landslide prone slopes
  • mined areas
  • steep slopes
  • the use of rivers and riparian lands

The proactive component addresses promoting the highest and best use of lands related to City parks and greenways, enhancement of the urban tree canopy, provision of recreational trails and ecosystem restoration.

Uptown EcoInnovation District

City Planning is working with a team led by Interface Studio that is providing consulting services for the EcoInnovation District plan in Uptown & Oakland.

The EcoInnovation District plan will be completed in 2017. The plan will be environmentally and economically innovative and enhance equitable land use, mobility, energy, and infrastructure that will embody sustainability in all aspects of development.

We had a big public kick-off event in February 2016, and several smaller community engagements since then. Steering Committee presentations are also available on the project website. For more background info about our team, check out the press release from Mayor Peduto's office about the consultant selection.
